With 47,000 partner sellers, bol.com is changing retail to simplify daily life for 13 million customers. We have 33 million products on display and reach peak sales of 700 items a minute. Servicing and innovating that complex and ever-expanding retail tech landscape calls for a lot of engineering TLC. That TLC is provided by 100+ product teams. Data-driven and pioneering, they enable our organization to serve customers and partners better each day. But how can we help product teams make the right decisions? In this role, you become a (hopefully proud!) member of what we dubbed The Technical Platform Space. This is the realm where our most skilled techies roam because we are the guys and gals that provide quintessential development services to hundreds of bol.com engineers. We strive to continually improve their build and run environments by coding and maintaining tools that allow them to shine. Think self-services. Think providing sane defaults in Gitlab. Think explaining how to canary release new services in PRO. Et cetera. It’s up to you and your team to engineer new features and make sure existing features stay available, secure, scalable, and cost-effective.
More specifically, your team – Insights – operates centralized platforms for the bulk of the use cases, but they facilitate teams that want to take matters into their own hands by providing building blocks and consultancy. This allow feature teams to run their applications effortlessly in data centers and the cloud. As for our techniques and tooling: we standardized on Prometheus, Elastic / Opsgenie, running in the cloud, and are fanatically researching whether GCP can natively facilitate our ambitions even better. We are also in the midst of a cloud transition, so we can really leverage any linux, puppet (et cetera) expertise you bring to the keyboard. To maximize your impact, you need to be able to work closely with the different infra teams.
