How do you make our customers happy?
By supercharging bol.com’s tech innovation speed and effectiveness, so that we meet or, better yet, exceed customer and partner expectations. You achieve this by coaching and inspiring agile product teams, the team of teams, as well as individual business and tech leaders in an innovation community of over 800 tech-fueled heartbeats.
The biggest challange
In 2008, we were one of the first Dutch companies to embrace SCRUM. Today we have over 100 scrum teams, and we’re exploring how best to remain agile at scale. Sure, we’re aware of all the theories and frameworks, but ‘copy/pasting’ solutions is not an option. How do we create and embed an approach that complements our unique DNA? Zoom in on the human dynamics level and help shape our future organization. By experimenting with leaders and teams, by improving our way of working, and by boosting our innovation speed and impact. How can we create a learning environment that empowers leaders to explore and evolve their leadership style? And what is the next ‘logical’ step towards impactful innovation leadership?
Your responsibilities Transition Coach
- You coach on an organizational level (board of directors, leadership teams) and truly own your position as trusted advisor
- You (co)design interventions on an organizational level
- You create and foster awareness breakthroughs, spot and act upon dormant development needs
- You understand the mechanics of ingrained suboptimal habits/patterns and know how to change them
- You identify the most impactful levers for change, together with a Way of Working coach
- You keep close tabs on the organization – what is happening, and why? – and use those insights to outline the development goals of our agile way of working
As Transition Coach in the innovation domain, the question you need to answer is how to strike and maintain the right balance between ‘demand-based’ coaching (as indicated by our product teams and their leaders) while stimulating learning interventions that further our strategic goals. Our teams and the organization as a whole are evolving at breakneck speed, so we need to constantly evaluate and fine-tune our agile way of working to remain on top of our game. As our Transition Coach, you need to hit the ground running, because both the position and the Innovation Support team are brand new. You have 12 colleagues to help you advance company-wide innovation effectiveness.
You are a member of the coaches sub-team and work closely with a Way of Working Coach in one or more innovation domains. You also collaborate with the Way of Working Design sub-team to co-create bol.com’s agile-at-scale way of working. The role involves a good deal of pioneering and trial & error, but you can bounce ideas off 7 direct colleagues and have an inspiring People Lead who is an experienced transition coach. Developing your own coaching craftsmanship is an integral part of the benefits package!
Why you can make the difference
All innovations, from game-changing disruptions to modest optimizations, start with an idea. The sparks for those ideas are often caused by ‘friction’ that customers, partners and employees experience. So when people bring issues to your attention, roll out the red carpet, not the red tape! Solicit ideas and act on them. Focus on changes that can make the biggest differences. Create an even better environment for ideas to flow by increasing team autonomy. Boost workplace engagement. Realize iterative improvements to our agile way of working. And maximize innovation impact. As Transition Coach, you make that happen.

- Yes, if constructively challenging teams/leaders to achieve breakthroughs in behavioral patterns energizes you
- No, if you think business colleagues and techies evolved on different planets, and should probably remain separated
- No, if a complex environment with a myriad of stakeholders to manage sounds exhausting
- No, if you’ll only consider ideas that other businesses have proven work, and the outcomes have been validated by scientists
