Data Engineer Logistics Our fulfillment center is going to the cloud!

Go straight to:

How do you make our customers happy?

Our Business Intelligence and operational reporting specialists are instrumental in providing logistics stakeholders with important, data-driven insights. Insights that allow them to streamline the complex warehousing processes in our BREAAM award-winning fulfillment center. How that benefits our 10 million customers? By assuring that their orders are picked and delivered accurately and with optimum efficiency!

The greatest challenge

Our on-premise Oracle BI environment has served us well, but all good things come to an end. Actually, all the time… whenever we find a better solution. In this case we’re transitioning to the cloud. This is a major endeavor, given that speed and reliability are of the essence. Our BI reports ‘fuel’ the warehousing operation, and the margins for error are infinitesimally small.

Your responsibilities as our Data Engineer Logistics

Together with your colleagues, you are at the helm of ‘project cloud’. We already did some of the (pardon the pun) groundwork, e.g. by setting up the infrastructure which will allow us to migrate the data to BigQuery. It’s up to you to help us take the next (giant) steps, so the transition feels more like a hot air balloon ascending than a fighter jet taking off. A challenging responsibility, because we need our new solution to be both robust and fast from the get-go.

How can we create an extremely stable (near) real-time data stream? As our Fulfillment Center data engineer, you will formulate the answers. Whilst also allowing (scalability is key) for future growth, because our fulfillment center is being expanded as we speak.

Attractive: because our insights are instrumental to strategic decision-making processes, the position has a lot of impact. If your team succeeds, our logistics become future-proofed.

Why can you make the difference?

Because you can help us mature the project, which is currently still in its infancy stages. There is so much to do! And not just on an operational level, because we also expect you to contribute to a strong vision on data and BI in the cloud. Something you are naturally passionate about!

Functionally, as our data engineer you make sure that the warehousing data we collect can be used reliably and on-time to support the fulfillment processes in our warehouses.

Experience with near real-time data pipelines (using Python, BigQuery, Kubernetes & Dataflow), DEV-OPS, CI/CD, and monitoring/alerting would be an asset and an extra reason to invite you along for our journey to the cloud.

If you even have Google Cloud Platform and Airflow experience or you are keen to learn we will be very happy to meet you!

3 reasons why this is(n’t) for you

  • Because you have a strong vision on handling and storing big data and confident sharing this
  • Medior to senior level of working
  • Designing and maintaining data pipelines
  • Because you have zero knowledge of BI, SQL and data modeling
  • You only want to create technology without knowledge of the context
  • Because you prefer to work solo; you’re not into that whole teamwork thing

Where you’ll work serves over 10 million customers and hosts 2.5 million daily monthly visitors. This opportunity entails the chance to work in a truly autonomous team with the latest and greatest tooling, such as BigQuery, HVR (CDC), Airflow, Python and any middleware and front-end solutions you are passionate about.

Continuous improvement and cooperation are cornerstones of our company. As a Fulfillment Center data engineer you can achieve great things solo, and even greater things together.

All of our cross-functional scrum teams embrace experimentation and new technologies. And share a burning ambition to work hard and play hard in equal measure. Which is why we have our own soccer field, games room and bar on Fridays.
