How do you make our customers happy?
Bol.com is changing retail to make daily life simpler for 12 million customers. Together with 39,000 partners who do business on our retail tech platform, we offer 33 million articles and achieve peak sales of 700 orders per minute (Black Friday 2020). Given the diversity of customer/product matches and rapidly changing customer and partner preferences, we need to continuously improve and innovate the customer experience. That includes the way customers complete their orders. Can you design and implement a super-relevant checkout?
The biggest challenge
The bol.com experience doesn’t stop at the shopping cart. Just as in a physical store, we want to offer customers an easy and convenient way to complete their purchase. The more we succeed, the less shopping carts will be abandoned and the happier our customers will be when they leave our store. But what does the checkout of tomorrow (and beyond) look like?
Your responsibilities as Digital Product Designer Checkout
- Design and implement the checkout experience of tomorrow and beyond
- Take a customer-centric approach and base innovations and improvements (design, UX) on solid data analysis insights
- Develop a vision and strategy for checkout and get colleagues on board
- Involve all stakeholders in your projects, including our customers, for example, by setting up user studies
- Contribute to the development of the design community – they’ll gladly reciprocate!
As Digital Product Designer Checkout, you ensure that 12 million customer journeys come to a beautiful conclusion: a superbly relevant and (thus) brand-worthy bol.com checkout experience. You take the lead in designing this innovative checkout. You are guided by a genuine understanding of our customers and in-depth analyses of customer journeys. And you ‘effortlessly’ translate these insights into a clear vision and powerful strategy for the checkout product that also incorporates the business perspective. How do we make it easier for the ‘customer of the future’ to pay for purchases so that we can deliver orders quickly? Work together with your colleagues to create the ultimate checkout. Not based on a hunch, but guided by analytical insights that come from diving deep into the data.
Take a hypothesis-driven approach and develop customer studies to support your plans. Organize workshops and involve stakeholders in your vision and roadmap. Important: your solutions cater to (the needs of) our customers, as well as to logistical, brand, and partner considerations. Besides fulfilling your responsibilities as Product Designer, you also actively contribute to the design community. Inspiring and learning from each other is key. Not just by sharing what you’re working on at the moment but also, and more importantly, by talking about (and demonstrating) your vision on design. As an experienced designer, you want to help your junior and mid-level colleagues to grow in their role!
Why you can make a difference
Because you’re an accomplished, forward-thinking Product Designer with a wealth of experience in customer research, design thinking and interaction design. We’ll award bonus points if that experience covers e-commerce environments. You’re accustomed to agile and know how to excel in multidisciplinary teams by making an impact on analysts, developers, product owners and the product manager.
Colleagues characterize you as solution-oriented, proactive and constructively critical. Cooperating, listening and asking questions are in your DNA. True success also depends on your ability to make tough decisions and explain your choices. Good to know: we work hard and like to have fun while we’re at it. So if you’re a team player who can speak frankly with anyone, welcome! Finally: you’re a stickler for adhering to design standards. That’s a hard requirement. Then again: you do have a say in setting those standards. 😉
3 reasons why this is(n’t) for you
- Because you bring 5+ years of experience and your portfolio speaks volumes about how you handle processes and tough decisions
- Because you know that your designs will benefit from cooperating in a multidisciplinary team
- Because you know you have it in you to create the world’s best customer experience
- Because you passionately believe in first time right designs #newinsights are a myth
- Because to you, the checkout is just another feature; you have to process payments, that’s it
- Because you can’t see the forest for the trees. Or vice versa.
Where you’ll work
At the premier online retail tech platform in the Netherlands and Belgium. A platform where 12 million customers can choose from over 33 million articles. A platform that helps roughly 39,000 commercial partners run their businesses. And a platform that will never be ‘finished’, because bol.com has been reinventing retail since 1999 and we always will be. If there’s a better way to do something, we’re working on it! Together with our customers, partners, and over 2,300 colleagues. And hopefully together with you. As Digital Product Designer Checkout, you are part of the Shopping Core Tech Department. Practically every customer-oriented innovation and improvement to the website and app crosses our desks, so it’s a role with tremendous impact. The Shopping Core Tech teams focus on improving and safeguarding the customer experience. We accomplish that by continuously experimenting to learn what does and doesn’t work. And yes, we base our decisions on data and feedback.
Bol.com, de winkel van ons allemaal (the store of us all). This is the story we work on every day. It is our belief, that this will grow even stronger when many different people add their uniqueness to our story. We invite you to share your story with us.
