Bol.com is changing retail to make daily life simpler for 13 million customers. A mission we take on with 46,000 partners that enrich our retail tech platform with great propositions. Combined, we offer 33 million articles. It stands to reason that we want to inspire customers along their entire journey, including the checkout process. Autoplaying Hotel California would be a firm no. Here’s what we do want: a checkout process that’s 1% more user-friendly than humanly possible. 😉 And so, we rethink and redesign our checkout process on a daily basis.
Your responsibilities as Front-end Engineer Optimal Checkout Experience
- Become and stay aware of what our end users expect and want
- Help design and build the checkout of the future, functionally and technically
- Deliver high-performance code that noticeably improves the shopping experience for millions of users
- Improve the performance and scalability of the checkout process
As Front-end Software Engineer Checkout, you are a valued member of the Optimal Checkout Experience team that strives to make our customers’ lives just that little bit easier. The checkout experience is one of the last steps in the customer journey and a crucial one to get right. Firstly, because it will improve our bottom line – we hate the sight of abandoned shopping carts piling up. Also, and more importantly, for the sake of our customers, because fluid processes prevent unnecessary frustration. As a member of the feature team, you’ll be working on the front-end code, mainly written in React. You co-create the checkout experience with other front-end engineers, both from the Checkout product team and the bol.com shop. As for the setting: the team is very diverse in terms of age, experience and cultural backgrounds. But we all share a passion for creating the ultimate basket and checkout experience for our customers. You’ll use a new architecture and modern languages/tooling to realize a series of small features that will go live in rapid succession. Individually, they’ll make every checkout experience better than the previous one. Together, they’ll add up to an amazing improvement.
