How do you make our customers happy?

By designing an IT architecture that can shoulder our expansive growth ambitions, instilling enthusiasm for your design in your colleagues, and embedding your vision in the DNA of You’ll be focusing on the shopping domain – it doesn’t get more customer facing – where creating, realizing, and optimizing a scalable application landscape directly impacts the shopping experience of 9 million customers.

Your responsibilities as an IT Architect with a focus on Search

  • Identify solutions and negotiate choices
  • Closely collaborate with (and win over) teams and business stakeholders
  • Uphold the architecture in IT teams, the IT organization as a whole, and the entire business
  • Embed and protect architecture principles on all organizational levels
  • Primary focus: Search

As our new IT Architect, you’ll land (comfortably crowd surfing) in Shopping, our most customer facing IT domain. This is where we keep customers glued to their screens, contently shopping as their every search returns relevant and inspiring new products. Explore this domain and own it. Develop a vision on Search in collaboration with your colleague architects (a mix of IT, software and business architects) and stimulate the business to improve with a constant stream of sharp ideas. Present you vision and plans with gusto, align stakeholders and keep them engaged and aligned.

Also develop concepts for other domains (for example Content and SEO). Check your ideas with stakeholders, then realize your plans as a team effort with scrum teams, software architects and business architects. We already have several exciting goals on our roadmap, but we expect you to look beyond these ambitions. As our IT Architect, develop and advance your own medium and long term plan. Where do we want to be in 3-5 years? How should Search develop? How do we maintain our lead? Translate your vision into a technical plan with the scrum teams and and take charge of its implementation.

Why you can make the difference

Because you are passionate about pioneering and combine a talent for developing long term plans with the pragmatism to forge short cuts. Stakeholder and (project) management skills are indispensable, as are persuasive communication skills and confidence to challenge the status quo. You like to realize ideas together, in relationships, and not by imposing your will. You are able to oversee the impact of your decisions on the entire services architecture. A background in programming would be nice. Analytical prowess and conceptual skills are essential. As are enthusiasm and entrepreneurial spirit. Last but not least, you are a strategist who also likes to resolve tactical and operational issues: the journey matters as much as the goal.

3 reasons why this is(n’t) for you

  • Because you bring a Master’s degree (Information Science world be perfect) and 5+ years of experience in architecture, conceptualizing/optimizing application landscapes to the table
  • Because you want to work with a mix of cutting edge and proven technology
  • Because your toolbox includes federated search, scalability and elastic search
  • Because you prefer to work in isolation; developing a vision is a solo activity and ‘wisdom of the crowd’ is a myth.
  • Because you’re not a huge fan of service architectures
  • Because you need to understand every minute detail before you can proceed

Where you’ll work
