IT Security Engineer Guardian of our Information Galaxy

the team
Go straight to:

How do you make our customers happy?

By making sure customer data is safe and secure. In fact, you and your colleagues will be keeping all of our data safe and secure! It’s your expertise that keeps our IT systems both in our physical locations such as our distribution and fulfilment centers, but also of (a growing number) of virtual locations in the cloud secure.

Your responsibilities as guardian of our information galaxy

  • Provide security insights to teams through dashboards
  • Set up security monitoring and send actionable alerts to teams
  • Automate as much as possible (a lazy engineer is an effective engineer)
  • Review configs or solutions, and apply hardening when needed
  • Offer support together with your colleagues on security questions

As our Security Engineer you will work with the latest tech, have the freedom to do your job as you see fit and come up with good/better/great ideas to improve on our ways of working. You will be part of the new SecOps team, comprised of 3 engineers (including you) and our team lead. Given the emphasis on security, this team might very well grow in the future. The team is focused on facilitating proper security solutions. In addition to creating and maintaining security dashboards, this also means providing security scanners and patch tools to other teams. As part of this team, we expect you to have a good understanding of a variety of tools and solutions, cloud solutions such as GCP, AWS and/or Azure, kubernetes, puppet, hiera and python. But we also appreciate your expertise when it comes to (for instance) load balancers, firewalls and syslog. This role mixes system engineering with creating scripts/tooling to provide solutions to your ‘customers’; your 1.500 colleagues.

Why you can make the difference

Because you know what you’re talking about and – more importantly – don’t hesitate when you feel the need to ask a question. You’re an approachable, amiable colleague. A team-player with strong communication skills and the drive to experiment and share learnings. Experience with cloud solutions such as GCP, AWS and/or Azure is a must. Knowledge of tools and solutions (the more, the merrier) like PowerShell, active directory, LDAP, Nagios, Prometheus, proxies, load balancers, vault, firewalls and syslog would be a major asset. If some of those aren’t in your skill set yet, that’s no biggie, provided you look forward to discovering them.

3 reasons why this is(n’t) for you

  • You like small teams and the freedom/autonomy those give you
  • You embrace failures and share your learnings openly
  • The dynamic environment you’ll be in, energizes you
  • You know you’re a genius and aren’t afraid to point that out every 5 minutes or so
  • You think asking for help is a weakness
  • You don’t believe a security environment can’t go hand in hand with velocity and pragmatic solutions

Where you’ll work serves 9,5 million customers. This opportunity entails the chance to work in a truly autonomous team with the latest and greatest tooling. All of our cross-functional scrum teams embrace experimentation and new technologies. And share a burning ambition to work hard and play hard in equal measure. Which is why we have our own soccer field, games room and bar on Fridays. Continuous improvement and cooperation are cornerstones of our company. As a Security Engineer you can achieve great things solo, and even greater things together. Our motto: you build it, you run it, you love it, you hack it. If it can be improved upon: destroy, erase, improve!
