How do you make our customers happy?
With over 10 million customers, 30 million monthly visits and about 22 million products on display, bol.com is the most successful online retail platform in The Netherlands and Belgium. And when we say ‘platform’, we mean it. Well over 35.000 partners – and counting – are actively selling products to try to fulfill our customers’ needs. By leveraging data and technology in an agile fashion we intend to deliver on our promise to make life easier and more fun for both our customers and partners. And that is where you come in!
As a Product Manager Forecasting you are at the forefront of an exciting domain in which we employ the latest data science & machine learning technology to predict the future based on what happened in the past. Based on these forecasts we can improve the decision-making for the entire platform, be they; partners optimizing their stock levels, logistic teams improving our warehouses and delivery, customer service managing their workload or our financial teams overseeing our budgets and strategic investments. The use cases are literally endless, and we’re just starting.
Your biggest challenge
Bol.com’s transition into a true tech platform opens up a lot of new opportunities for forecasting. We envision your product team to become the centre of excellence in forecasting for the entire platform. Every forecast in bol.com starts with you. This asks for an inspirational product strategy and the ability to convince new users of the value of data science powered forecasts in order to grow adoption across bol.com. Showcasing learning & results, actively searching for new opportunities to make impact and making complex forecasting processes easy to understand. In addition, you actively engage with users to derive their forecasting needs and wishes in order to increase their satisfaction. Where can we improve existing forecasts? How can we deliver forecasts in such a way that they are easy to use? Finally, you measure and account for the business impact your team makes. You track progress, update stakeholders on the generated value and secure resources for impactful innovations.
Your responsibilities as Product Manager Forecasting
- Craft an inspiring product strategy for forecasting based on bol.com’s platform goals, stakeholder input, user feedback and your team’s experiences
- Set goals & prioritize innovations based on the product strategy, user impact and resource availability
- Deliver accurate forecasts to a diverse set of users on the platform, be they sellers or internal bol.com teams in for instance logistics, marketing and commerce
- Drive the operation & continuous innovation of forecasting applications in an agile, user centric and data-driven manner
- Enable and facilitate a multidisciplinary DevOps team of data scientists and software engineers to create bol.com’s centre of excellence for forecasting
- Analyze business cases and work with and alongside your team to come up with proof of concepts
As a Product Manager, you lead and set out the direction of the product with your team (but you yourself carry ultimate responsibility). It is your job to drive innovation, motivate your team, involve and align all of bol.com, and deliver the forecasts that materialize the promises you make.
Why you can make a difference
Because you are a data & tech savvy business leader with a strategic mind and practical experience in data analysis, data science or data/software engineering. By being able to bridge business and technology you are able to conceptualize, sell, build and grow our data science and machine learning applications in a compelling way. You are a natural innovator with a relentless focus on your products’ users. Experimentation and agility is at the heart of your modus operandi. You start small in order to ultimately scale to bol.com standards. In that process you are not afraid to get your hands dirty on analyses and code if that is required for making progress. To really think through how to expose your forecasts to users, you have a decent understanding of IT architecture, APIs and data pipelines. Above all you easily connect to a wide array of people, from software engineers to directors, from business to tech and from operators to strategists.
3 reasons why this is(n’t) for you
- You have 5+ years product management experience in a data heavy tech environment
- You can substantiate your vision energetically and know how to create buy-in
- Your track record & skillset (SQL and/or Python) proves you can leverage data science to create value for users
- You can’t balance trade-offs and make decisions
- You are not able to motivate a team to reach ambitious goals
- Your conversations with engineers and data scientists generally end in utter confusion and blowing raspberries
