How do you make our customers happy?
By improving bol.com’s tech innovation speed and effectiveness, so that we can continue to meet or exceed our customers’ and partners’ expectations. You do this by designing, streamlining and organizing an innovation process for planning and resourcing that will directly impact over 800 tech-minded bol.commers.
The biggest challenge
How to remain agile at scale? In 2008, we were one of the first Dutch companies to truly embrace SCRUM. Today, we have 100+ scrum teams, and are exploring how best to remain agile at scale. Sure, we’re aware of the world of theories and frameworks already out there. The challenge is to create an approach that aligns with bol.com’s unique DNA. That means no big bang transitions or ‘copy pasting’, but experimenting with the teams to co-create and improve our tailor-made Way of Working.
Your responsibilities as Way of Working Designer
- You coordinate with product owners, people leads and scrum masters to foster a shared vision of our goal and the path there, and to encourage the sharing of best practices
- You organize innovation planning processes and events, together with the WoW Design Lead
- You facilitate continuous communication - and storytelling – to inspire and engage the innovation community in its agile way of working
- You help the Innovation Support team conduct external PR
- You coordinate with HR and the IT Community Management Teams to develop and improve the onboarding process of new hires to the bol.com innovation community
The Innovation Support team is brand new and you will be its first WoW Designer. Together with your 12 colleagues, your team will set out to improve the innovation effectiveness within the tech community. As a member of the WoW design subteam, you’ll work closely with the WoW Design Lead (reporting line) and Product Management Craft learning partner. Your primary task: to co-design an agile way of working, based on key practices, that reflects our distinctive DNA. Your team’s ambition: to empower bol.com teams (and the team of teams) to continuously grow in their agile way of working, and increase their innovation impact, agility and engagement. Co-design ways of working for teams that improve the execution of our overall strategy, help to set and align the right goals for success, manage dependencies, track progress and impact, develop agile decision-making processes and foster engagement and team health. In short, design a way of working that allows our tech community to shine!
You Build it, You run it, You Love it
This goes beyond the role of an advisor/consultant. We fully expect you to sign off on designing (building) and implementing (running) the innovation process. And you’ll constantly improve on your ‘product’, based on an evolving product vision and customer feedback. Revisiting and revaluating old hypotheses based on current results and metrics, and using new insights to make adjustments, are integral aspects of your job. In light of this, you’re also one of the key organizers of big room planning events.
Why you can make the difference
Technology is the main enabler of our transformation into a retail tech platform. We need you to keep our tech engine tuned. So it’s important that you understand the software development process, have worked with Innovation teams and are used to teaming up with Product Owners, Product Managers, Scrum masters, Engineers, Business Analysts and People Leads. You have a progressive vision for agile ways of working and know how to engage and inspire the innovation community. These qualities are indispensable to fully unlock the potential speed and effectiveness of innovation within bol.com.
3 reasons why this is(n’t) for you
- Yes, if you’re passionate about agile software development and organizational processes
- Yes, if you’re a systems thinker
- Yes, if you’re not only an agile theorist, but also want to work in tandem with teams to determine what works and what doesn’t
- Not, if you don’t believe co-creation yields better results than solo efforts
- Not, if complex environments and dealing with tech stakeholders are not your forte
- Not, if you’re not already eager to connect with, engage and inspire our innovation teams
