What you'll do
Key Accountabilities within Engineering
Discover
Act as problem detectives and opportunity seekers, not just coders. Analyse data, engage with customers* and stakeholders, and dig deep into business processes and our business model to truly understand the “why” behind technical needs. Assess technical feasibility of potential solutions, help design experiments to test hypotheses and ensure engineering perspective is included early in the product discovery process.
Design
Create practical technical solutions that solve real problems whilst considering the bigger picture. Design systems that are reliable, secure, and easy to maintain, while being mindful of costs and scalability. Break down complex goals into smaller deliverable pieces to provide value quickly. Whether it’s designing a new feature or iterating based on feedback, maintain highlevel architecture, ensure solutions are well-scoped, properly estimated, and aligned with business goals.
Delivery
Build and ship high-quality technical solutions that work in the real world. Manage the entire delivery process from first line of code to deployment. Write clean code, create comprehensive tests and review code to ensure quality standards. Confidently deploy to production, working closely with your stakeholders to ensure a smooth implementation.
Run
Keep systems healthy and users happy by ensuring services run smoothly and efficiently. Set up and maintain effective monitoring and alerting systems to catch & resolve issues before they impact users. This includes regular system updates, performance optimisation, cost management and circling back to discovery to spot opportunities for more value.
Continuous Improvement
Stay ahead of the curve by continuously improving yourself and your team. Regularly reflect, identify areas for growth and actively work to improve them. Stay up to date with engineering best practices and new technologies and improve how the team works together. Contribute to a culture of learning by sharing knowledge, participating in technical discussions, and helping implement better ways of working.
