How do you make our customers happy?

We serve over 8 million customers who get to pick from a growing catalog of 15 million products by providing near real-time accurate stock levels. We manage an inventory of over 350,000 items and counting, and are at the core of determining where products are located and how soon they can be delivered to the customer. In addition to stock levels we also keep track of its value, providing key insights that ensure our pricing is competitive.

Your responsibilities to deal with stock

We are looking for a talented backend software engineer who has experience building fault-tolerant, scalable backend services. You take pride in your code and focus on quality, seeing test driven development and code reviews as the foundations to building high quality software.

Technical skills are only half the story. As a person, you enjoy collaborating with others to reach optimal solutions. You communicate clearly, aren’t afraid to share your opinion, and view constructive feedback as an opportunity to learn. You take pride in your work and want to be responsible for what you build – all the way to production.

As a member of an experienced agile team you’ll work closely with other software engineers (within the team, but also in other bol.com teams), business analysts and product owner.

But it’s technology that drives you, so here’s what drives our services:

* Kotlin (and some Java)

* Spring Boot

* PostgreSQL

* Angular

* Google Cloud Platform

* Git, Maven, IntelliJ IDEA

* GitLab, Jenkins, Docker, Jira

Or rather, we’re engineers Bart, Paul, Michael, Jon, Niels and product owner Joel. Joel gets mentioned last, but he’s least by far; he’s closely involved in everything we do, has an IT mindset, and is even picking up some coding these days. We also work closely together with several business analysts and stakeholders, and other scrum teams. But that’s just who we are now. We aspire to be You, Bart, Paul, Michael, Jon, Niels and Joel. Where you are an experienced backend Java – and Kotlin – engineer with a test-mindset.

3 reasons why this is(n’t) for you

  • Because you autonomously want to deploy your code to production
  • Because you are an experienced backend Java – and Kotlin - engineer with a test-mindset
  • Because you believe that high quality software, best serves our business
  • Because when you think a story is done, when it's not live
  • Because you aren't a team player
  • Because you don't believe in the power of fun!
