How do you make our customers happy?
Bol.com is the favorite store of millions of customers. We list over 20 million available products in a constantly expanding array of product categories. Mostly still ‘first-party’ products, but increasingly from >28k partner sellers. Customers should be confident that all of our products, including our partners’, are priced so competitively that price shopping elsewhere would be rendered useless. If we manage to accomplish that, we’d be giving our customers a shopping experience that is both rich and affordable
The main challenge
Discussions about pricing in the digital space frequently include the term ‘price transparency’ (all market prices are known to everyone). And yes, we have much more transparency now than we ever did in the analogue era, but we haven’t attained perfect price transparency. It’s simply impossible for retailers to monitor the price of everything real time. This is why we challenge ourselves to always know the most up-to-date market prices. And why we are continuously improving on how we apply this market data across our entire platform, to make bol.com increasingly relevant, for both our customers and our partners.
Your responsibilities as Product Owner Pricing Tech
As Product Owner, you are responsible for maximizing the impact of our market data innovations. It is crucial that you know exactly how end users can leverage your data in their own processes, so that you and your team continuously focus on the most impactful solutions and make bol.com an increasingly relevant platform for partners and customers.
You’ll create a long-term vision for your high tech product and generate strong backing and enthusiasm from the team and stakeholders. You’ll bring balance and focus to our experiment-driven approach to innovation, while keeping current functionalities ‘up and running’. You’ll do this in close collaboration with experienced engineers on the team, analysts and stakeholders, and with an understanding of the technological challenges in the domain, because you truly own your product
Why you can make the difference
Because after completing your master’s degree, you gained experience as Product Owner and you feel completely at ease in Scrum/Agile work environments. Given the domain, affinity for IT and Big Data is indispensable. As is a talent to connect and inspire, for example with regard to the engineers; the more they support your well-substantiated vision, the more enthusiasm they’ll put into their work, and the greater their impact will be. But as important as your master vision is, you also need to have a knack for ‘hands-on’ pioneering and experimentation. Creating value on the fly with prototypes and experiments is key. Don’t take forever to hammer out functional designs; ‘simply’ prove a concept and run with it. This position requires an understanding of technical processes, a radar for projects that create value for the platform, and an ability to establish structure so that the team can focus.
3 reasons why this is(n’t) for you
- Because you have several years of PO experience
- Because you have proven analytical skills and a track record for data-driven decisions
- Because your vision is solidly substantiated and you can generate buy-in for it
- Because your many skills do not include stakeholder management
- Because you won’t green-light a solution until the competition proves it works
- Because you can’t communicate with engineers; they think too differently
