Tech perspectives of our bollers

The Design System - Product

“The challenge was to make fifty teams work together in a consistent way. Changes at the tiniest tweaks matter -- such as from 'bol-blue' to a slightly darker shade of blue – were implemented into our Design System, cascading across our entire organization in one swift move. It's these precise moments that truly highlight the immediate impact of our efforts.”

The Design System - IT

"The main goal of the project? To speed up innovation in a scalable way. “As of right now, we already have 150 interfaces running on our Design System, but we’re far from done. As long as the market, technology and bol keep evolving, then so will we.” Changes at the tiniest tweaks matter in a project like this, because it cascades across the entire organization in one swift move." Wesley tells you all about it from his IT perspective.

Continuous Interviewing

"The only way to be customer crazy is when you know your users and when you are continuously in touch with them."

Navigating chaotic times: forecasting amid the pandemic

Eryk’s perspective on Forecasting at bol. “Besides the maturity and the size, the possibilities in terms of tech and data at bol truly fascinated me. There is a massive amount of data available here, mostly well-documented, clean and well-maintained. With around 40 million items reaching millions of people in The Netherlands and Belgium, there is so much for me to work with. My job is to translate this data into forecasts for multiple use cases, like customer needs, logistics and products. To give you a practical example: with this kind of information bol can plan the staffing in our warehouses precisely, even 20 weeks ahead.”

Understanding our customers through Continuous Interviewing.

Bridge the gap between bol and our customers through UX research. Understanding their needs, frustrations and wishes helps bollers approach their work with more empathy and consideration. When you set out to become a product-led organisation, you want to focus on proving real value through your product. To do that, we need to understand the cutstomers. This is our way of doing that. Check out Thecla’s perspective on Continuous interviewing.

Arnold’s perspective on the iDEAL project

"By checking assumptions with the customer, you quickly find out whether they are correct, while also monitoring for any bottlenecks and concerns." When the Netherlands' biggest payment platform of all is changing their ways, it naturally has an impact on bol's customers. Senior Product Manager Arnold takes us through the course of his recent iDEAL project - a challenging and extensive job.
